Reflectix Insulation in Houston, TX

Reflectix Insulation in Houston, IL | Topside Attic Insulation

We provide independent Reflectix sales and service across Houston, Texas, for homes of every era, from 1920s bungalows to 1990s brick veneers. The one thing that makes our Reflectix work here different is the climate: Houston sits in IECC Climate Zone 2A, hot and humid, where summer vapor drive runs inward toward the air-conditioned interior. That single fact changes how reflective insulation performs, which is why we test before we touch anything. Call (218) 261-7714 for a written price before any work starts.

Why Houston Residents Choose Us for Reflectix Service

Our team has worked with Reflectix products long enough to know that a radiant barrier is only as good as its air gap. That’s the detail most installers miss, and in Houston’s humidity it’s the detail that determines whether your attic stays dry or starts weeping condensation onto your insulation. Wes Okafor, our owner and lead building envelope technician, grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago and has spent over twenty years doing insulation work with a blower-door test running before any material goes in. He brings that same documented, numbers-first approach to Reflectix sales & service in Houston. Every job starts with a written scope. Every job ends with a photo record. That’s Haven Standard, and it’s been our operating rule since 2016.

We’re an independent Reflectix repair in Pasadena provider. We’re not manufacturer-affiliated, not authorized, not obligated to push any particular product line. That means we can tell you when Reflectix makes sense for your Houston attic and when closed-cell spray foam on the roof deck is the better play. The answer depends on your house, your ductwork, and your blower-door reading, not on a sales quota.

Common Reflectix Insulation Problems We Solve in Houston

Common Reflectix Insulation Problems We Solve in Houston
  • Taping failures at seams. Houston’s humidity attacks adhesive. We regularly see Reflectix seams where the original foil tape has curled, separated, and left gaps that kill the radiant barrier’s effectiveness. The fix is removing the failed tape, cleaning the surface, and re-taping with fresh Reflectix brand tape or a quality aftermarket foil tape when the original adhesive has degraded. In the Heights and Montrose, where bungalows have open crawl spaces feeding moisture upward, this failure mode shows up faster than almost anywhere else in Texas.
  • Compressed Foil/Bubble/Foil. Attic storage and HVAC servicing crush the bubble layer, eliminating the air gap that gives Reflectix its thermal break. We see this in Houston’s slab-on-grade homes constantly, because the attic is often the only storage space in the house. A compressed radiant barrier reads like nothing on an infrared camera. We replace the damaged sections and re-establish the required 5/8-inch air gap over baffles.
  • Foil corrosion near Galveston Bay. Marine-influenced air carries salt and moisture that corrodes aluminum foil at fastener points. Homes in the southeastern parts of Houston, closer to the bay, show this corrosion as white powdery residue around staples and nails. We swap in corrosion-resistant fasteners and re-tape the affected areas before the foil tears through.
  • Wrong orientation of perforated vs. solid radiant barrier. In vented attics, using solid radiant barrier where perforated belongs traps moisture against the roof deck. This is one of the most common installation errors we correct in Houston, where the summer attic dew point regularly exceeds the aluminum sheet temperature on poorly installed barriers. The result is surface condensation that drips onto insulation below, and the first sign is usually a damp spot on the ceiling.
  • Radiant barrier installed flat over blown-in insulation. Staple Reflectix directly over your attic floor insulation and you’ve created two problems: the foil becomes a dust-catching surface, and the air gap below it, the thing that makes it work, evaporates. We pull it up, correct the installation, and restore the air gap so the barrier actually reflects heat instead of just lying there.

Reflectix Service in Houston: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Houston’s summer attic dew point regularly exceeds the aluminum sheet temperature of poorly installed radiant barriers. Read that again, because it’s the difference between a radiant barrier that works and one that rains on your insulation. In Dallas, attic air mixes more readily with outside air, so the dew point inside the attic stays lower. In Houston’s hot-humid climate, the air trapped in an attic can hold enough moisture that when it contacts the cool surface of a radiant barrier installed without proper ventilation, condensation forms on the underside of the foil. The water then drips onto whatever insulation sits below, whether that’s R-19 fiberglass in a 1980s Memorial brick veneer or blown-in cellulose in a newer build. We saw this exact failure in a home near Briargrove: a solid radiant barrier installed directly against the roof deck with no air gap, no perforation, and no baffles. The underside of that barrier was soaked, the insulation below was matted and compressed, and the homeowner had no idea until a ceiling stain showed up in the living room. We removed the barrier, repaired the torn sections of RB48125 with new Reflectix tape, and reinstalled everything over new baffles to restore the 5/8-inch air gap required for condensation control. The repair held, and the blower-door numbers improved by about 18 percent after we also sealed the top plates and can lights in that attic. That’s the kind of documentation every Topside Attic Insulation customer walks away with.

Seal the holes first. Then add the R-value. The numbers will tell you whether it worked.

Reflectix Models & Products We Service in Houston

Reflectix Models & Products We Service in Houston

We work with the full Reflectix line that matters for Houston homes. That includes the Double Reflective Insulation (ST16025), the Radiant Barrier (RB48125), the Double Bubble White Poly (BP48025), and the Concrete Slab Insulation (RW4250) that goes under slab-on-grade foundations, which covers most of Houston’s housing stock built between the 1960s and 1990s. When we repair, we use Reflectix brand tape and fasteners for warranty-safe work, but we’ll substitute a quality aftermarket foil tape if the original adhesive has already failed, because re-taping over failed adhesive just means you’ll be back in the attic next summer. We offer Reflectix service in Mesquite and repair rather than replace whenever the material is sound, recommending replacement only when a barrier is torn or punctured beyond 20 percent of its area. We keep the most common Reflectix tapes, fasteners, and perforated barrier stock on hand for fast turnaround across Houston, including same-week service for inner-loop homes.

Reflectix Service Pricing in Houston

Most Reflectix repair work in Houston, seam re-taping, fastener corrosion fixes, small section replacement, runs between $180 and $450. A full attic radiant barrier installation over new baffles in a typical 1,800-square-foot Houston home ranges from $1,500 to $2,800, depending on access, roof pitch, and how much old insulation has to come out first. If we’re pairing the radiant barrier with air sealing, which we recommend in virtually every Houston attic because duct leakage in unconditioned attics is the single biggest HVAC loss in this climate, the combined job typically lands between $2,800 and $5,200. Every quote is a written price before any work starts. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1. Call (218) 261-7714 and we’ll give you a number you can hold us to.
